One foot in front of the other
Ah, I’ve been a little overwhelmed lately. I haven’t been on Facebook, Twitter or LinkedIn for about a month! I’m trying to stay calm amidst the Christmas to do list, and still be nice to my family and get some sleep. So far so good, surprisingly. Just yesterday my husband asked how I’m doing, trying to make sure I wasn’t on the precipice of freaking out. It was nice to truthfully say I’m doing well, mostly.
I let a lot of things go this year. I didn’t plan ahead for teacher’s gifts, for my hair and nail girl, for my co-workers. I felt guilty about that and then forced myself to wash the guilt away for the preservation of my finances and sanity. Everything has just all worked out. I received last minute epiphanies on what to give these people and I feel light. When I slow this crazy merry-go-round and wonder what I’ve missed, I feel tinges of panic so I get back on and do what I have to do this very minute instead. My theme right now: One foot in front of the other, and smile.
Peace, Kim

I think you are in the same boat as many of us. I'm usually a happy-go-lucky type person, don't worry about much... But I actually feel "stress" just during this time of year. I try and keep "Christmas" in mind all year long, and if I see something that reminds me of someone during the year, (thoughtful gifts are the best anyway) I buy it at that time for a Christmas gift. One of my rules of thumbs is to be DONE shopping by Thanksgiving so I can just worry about wrapping, sending packages and last minute things during December. I also hand make some gifts ahead of time, to help with the financial part of it all. Not to mention then I don't have to deal with the "Christmas Maniacs" on the road and in the malls. Makes it a lot less stressful, and easier to remember and appreciate all your family and friends!
ReplyDeleteHope your Holidays are good ones this year!
