Heart-Ache for others

I am just overwhelmed. I’m struck that while I’m working, or getting my hair cut, a friend is getting chemo, praying it helps keep her alive to raise her toddler. And, I’m struck that while I was living my busy life the other day, a woman with a breaking heart and tear stained face, was telling her granddaughters that her son, their father, died suddenly. The man was on Great Day last Friday. He won for his letter nominating his mom for our Great Day Mother’s Day contest. They were such dear people. He nominated his mom because of how she helped him care for his young daughters after his wife died of cancer 7 months ago. Now, Dad is gone too, suddenly. I’m just so sorry for the pain this family has been through, especially those little girls.I also ache for my old friend who’s only 40 years old and can’t stop cancer from growing in her body. I’ve talked about Kristin Hoke before. She and I were roommates when we worked at WBIR in Knoxville, Tennessee. She left and worked here at KMPH in Fresno, California as a reporter and weekend anchor. She recommended me for this job at Great Day years later when she was and still is working at WPBF in West Palm Beach Florida. She’s been fighting breast cancer for years. It’s gone away a few times, but keeps coming back more vicious than ever. I ache for her. She just wants a boring day to spend with her husband, and 3 year old daughter. And here I am, working, preparing to help in my son’s kindergarten class, distracted by all the home projects I want to do and can’t seem to get done. This perspective is overwhelming me. The sadness I feel is heavy.
Peace, Kim

  1. Kim, please take comfort in knowing how much your kind, quiet compassion and friendship to people like me who have gone through and continue to go through trauma and terrible heartache means to us. You may not give yourself enough credit but with every word and gesture, you give us a tiny bit of power and strength to move forward. Take it from someone who knows - YOU make a difference just by caring. We love you.
